Unified Workers’ Central (CUT) set to demonstrate in São Paulo on December 11


The Unified Workers’ Central (CUT), one of Brazil’s largest union federations, is calling their supporters to take part in nationwide demonstrations on December 11 to protest against the elimination of the Ministry of Labor announced by President-elect Jair Bolsonaro. In São Paulo, the demonstration will take place at 11:00 (local time) outside Superintendência do Trabalho (Secretary of Labor), in the city center.





Precedent suggests that demonstrations are likely to take place across other major urban areas, although organized have not yet confirmed other specific locations. According to reports, on November 22 protesters gathered outside the local Ministry of Labor office of in Recife and other cities. While demonstrations are purportedly intended to transpire peacefully, there remains potential for localized violence. }


Those operating or residing in Brazil on December 11 are advised to exercise vigilance in the vicinity of protests given potential for localized violence.
