Education professionals’ strike in Chile on October 3-4

The College of Professors in Chile published a statement announcing a 48-hour national strike October 3-4 to protest against the Ministry of Education due to failed negotiations over labor-related disputes. Teachers’ unions have already conducted a national protest on August 8, followed by a national strike and demonstrations on August 28.

The national strike will most likely be accompanied by demonstrations in central Santiago and other major cities such as Valparaíso and Concepción. Potential protests in Santiago will probably affect La Alameda between Plaza (Square) Baquedano and Echaurren. Although precedent suggests that the event will likely transpire without incidents, demonstrations could potentially attract crowds in the large thousands, possibly up to 30,000 participants.

Those residing or traveling to Santiago on October 3-4 are advised to anticipate traffic disruptions due to potential demonstrations in the city center.
